MECSCO, the parent company to BenEm International, was established in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1969 by sole proprietor, Mr. B. M. Benjamin. For over 43 years, the company operated in trade, the import and export business and engineering and infrastructure projects through its offices located in the Middle East. The company implements the importation of a variety of consumer goods for the account of various local merchants, by representing English Holding Companies, Americans, Dutch, Danish, Chinese, Japanese and some other European, including Turkish companies.​

Through the course of 46 years of business, our Company has Gained the Award of numerous Government Projects, TENDERS, Key-Turning-Projects, against competitors, by exclusively representing internationally reputable industries. To name a few, gaining the award of the Government Tender, from Iraqi Ministry of Trade, for the building and erection of a complete Dairy plant, Milk Collection Centers and Breweries in the city of Nineveh, Iraq, with the production capacity to supply the northern regions of Iraq with dairy products. For the project, our company Exclusively represented and introduced the British Company, APV Inc., into Iraq for the very first time, and successfully negotiated the terms between the APV Inc., and the Iraqi Ministry of Trade that ultimately lead to institution of the Dairy Factory in the northern regions of Iraq, ensuring timely completion of the project, and to the complete satisfaction of Iraqi Dairy Specialists before turning the project to the Iraqi Ministry of Trade; the Iraqi Government. Our company also represented the Dutch Dairy Company, Coberco Omefa, by marketing the range of their products, such as the Baby Formula Milk, MY-BOY, into Iraqi Market for the very first time. By setting presentations to major Hospitals and Pediatric Centers and providing samples, then gathering feedbacks from the medical centers and presenting them to the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, our company successfully gained the awards of several Tenders, over the span of 15 years making MY-BOY a house hold name and trusted brand in the Iraq for over 15 years. The marketing campaign was such a success that the product MY-BOY was also exported to the neighboring country of Iran. With similar marketing strategies, our company exclusively represented other internationally renowned Manufacturers such as, Nutricia, Cow&Gate, and Gerber which are just few to mention, and successfully gained the award of other Government Tenders for the supply of American rice from Supreme Rice, and for the supply of American grain and Brazilian Sugar. Our strength is not only attributed to being successful traders, but our capacity to resolve problems that may arise during business transactions. To mention one, during the sanction against Iraq, which trading was almost at a standstill, our Company continued activities by negotiating terms between our Principal Companies, Suppliers, and more importantly, the Iraqi oil industry, SOMO, and the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, by successfully negotiating terms of Trades on barter basis against oil. In that regard, our company reached its goals and overall was very successful despite the challenges.

 

We wish also to add that our company participated in many International Trade Fairs Shows, namely, Baghdad International Trade Show, which is an event held annually for the durations of two weeks. With the full backing and co-operation of our Principals, such as the British giant, HENRY SIMON, our company opened sections, exhibitions, that ultimately brought fruitful results by adding new accounts to the credit of our establishment.
